Nectarines are round fruits with a juicy flesh and seeds, and are quite similar to peaches. Its skin has no hair; it is smooth like that of a plum and can be eaten without peeling. In the Northern Hemisphere, the nectarine’s harvest season occurs in May, but the fruit can be found in markets throughout the year as it is grown in many countries around the world. In fact, nectarines are a variety of hairless or lint-free peach descending from a genetic mutation of the lint gene with the soft skin gene. They also have a more vivid color (somewhere between bright red and yellow), and are generally smaller.
